Park Hill Students Earn High Honors at National Debate Tournament

Park Hill South graduate Jake Mazeitis was a semi-finalist and placed fourth in the Lincoln-Douglas debate category. Incoming Park Hill High School senior Liam Redinger finished in the top ten percent in the extemporaneous debate category.

The Park Hill South debate team received the National Speech and Debate Association School of Honor award, which places them among top 40 debate schools in the country.

The debate teachers are Tyler Unsell from Park Hill High School and Jennifer Holden from Park Hill South.

Several Park Hill School District students qualified to compete in the National Speech and Debate Tournament June in Dallas, Texas and the MSHSAA State Debate Tournament in Springfield, Mo. in April.

The Park Hill South team also earned the Team Sweepstakes Trophy for first place for debate events while qualifying for the National tournament.

Four PHHS students also qualified for the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions, which is based on a cumulative evaluation from the entire year. Those students are junior Liam Redinger in humorous interpretation; sophomore Wezi Tembo in dramatic interpretation; senior Michael Weaver in dramatic interpretation; and junior Izzy Wussow in dramatic interpretation.
