Park Hill Students Qualify for National and State Debate Tournaments

The Park Hill South team also earned the Team Sweepstakes Trophy for first place for debate events while qualifying for the National tournament.

Four PHHS students also qualified for the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions, which is based on a cumulative evaluation from the entire year. Those students are junior Liam Redinger in humorous interpretation; sophomore Wezi Tembo in dramatic interpretation; senior Michael Weaver in dramatic interpretation; and junior Izzy Wussow in dramatic interpretation.

The debate teachers are Tyler Unsell from Park Hill High School and Jennifer Holden from Park Hill South.

STUDENT OF THE YEAR: Park Hill South senior Jake Mazeitis received the Heart of America District Student of the Year from the National Speech and Debate Association for his success and commitment to debate. Jake is the first Park Hill South student to receive this award, and he will now be in the running for the National Student of the Year Award at the National Speech and Debate Tournament this June in Dallas, Texas.
