Proceeds from Sophie’s Run, a 5K run and walk around Lake Waukomis on May 9, will benefit the assistive technology program in the Park Hill School District.
Assistive technology provides hardware and software for students with special needs to help them communicate, use computers, see, work and learn.
The run honors the memory of student Sophie Edwards. Edwards was diagnosed shortly after birth with intractable seizures and later mitochondrial disorder. She struggled with many years of drug, physical, occupational and speech therapies and passed on April 29, 2010.
