Park Hill DECA Students Qualify for and Earn Honors at International Competition

Several Park Hill High School students went to the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Fla. To compete at this level, they had to qualify at the state competition.

Senior Jacob Cowley, senior Mrudula Gandham, junior Taryn Huffer, junior Ryan Moise and senior Sean Moise competed against the top DECA students in the world at this event.

Gandham, Huffer and Cowley each earned the Award of Excellence by finishing in the top 30 percent of their events.

Several Park Hill High School students qualified for the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Fl. Only about five percent of all DECA members in the world get the opportunity to complete at the international level. The students qualified for this level by placing at the Missouri DECA Career Development Conference in March.

• Taryn Huffer, junior, took fourth place in the hospitality and tourism professional selling event.
• Mrudula Gandham, senior, and Jacob Cowley, senior, took fourth place in the marketing communications team decision-making event.
• Sean Moise, senior, and Ryan Moise, junior, took fifth place in the travel and tourism team decision-making event.

The DECA teacher for Park Hill High School is Matt Magnuson.

DECA is a vocational student organization for all students enrolled in a marketing class. Students participate in leadership development, civic activities and vocational understanding. Students have the opportunity to compete in all areas of marketing in order to qualify to travel to the International CDC.
